There’s a trellis in my garden where the tomatoes never climb in a straight line. They twist, lean, wander—and still, they fruit. That’s something I’ve come to accept in both gardening and homeschooling (and even in our own self-development): the path to growth is rarely linear. And perhaps that’s why this space exists.

My name is Kim Prieto, and I’m a homeschooling mom, literature teacher, curriculum creator, and lifelong student of people and ideas. I’ve walked away from teaching in public schools and following boxed curriculums, tiptoed into my own path, and wrestled with parenting questions that don’t come with easy answers. What you’ll find here isn’t perfection. It’s presence. It’s practice. It’s the quiet but persistent work of cultivating a life of meaning, beauty, and truth—no matter where you’re starting (or restarting) from.

On Readiness and Grace (Field Notes, No. 1)

This morning, as I sat with my journal and asked God what I needed to release, Matthew 13 rose gently to the surface.

I wrote:

“This morning, I feel like a dry, wilted plant—trying to root in rocky soil, surrounded by weeds, and exposed to unpredictable weather. But even in all that, my roots still feel strong.”

It wasn’t poetic. Just honest.

Not thriving—but still anchored.

And that’s where this reflection began.
